Concept
Herrisheen is based on herrings and sardines. It's species type is inspired by the "red herring" concept. It's extra appendages are inspired by Angler fish lures and regenerated limbs of animals like starfish or lizard tails.

Herrisheen is a combination of Herring and Sheen.

It uses the extra appendages on its body to distract predators. It releases the live appendages when predators are close to confuse them. The appendages jerk around like severed lizard tails meanwhile Herrisheen makes its escape. Schools of Herrisheen releasing appendages all at once can be very confusing to predators. |
The Bait appendages it loses grow back very quickly. Fishermen farm raise them in ponds, plucking off fully grown appendages and releasing Herrisheen back into the pond to grow again similar to sheering wool. The bait appendages are filled with nutrients and are very tasty. |
